HISTORICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE STATION

On this page you will find further information on the little station from the Bonn-Rechtsrheinisch e.V. Monument and History Society.

The little station

The railway station looks back on a long tradition: on 28 May 1862, the first load of iron ore, wood and coal was transported - at that time still by horse-drawn tram.

In the course of industrialisation, however, it was quickly converted to steam operation: the first narrow-gauge railway for public transport in Germany was born.

From now on, the Bröltalbahn was to connect the quarries around Ruppichteroth to Beuel with the whole world.

Due to the expansion of the routes, the network finally comprised 83.5 km. During the First World War, the Bröltalbahn was used to transport war goods.

When the Bröltalbahn was bought up by the Rhein-Sieg-Eisenbahn-Aktiengesellschaft and expanded by bus and coach services, the once popular railway lost more and more of its importance.

The last journey took place on 17 May 1967 before operations were completely discontinued. To this day, however, the former station building and the canopy as the former platform are considered listed monuments.

Today, the building houses the "Bahnhöfchen", a popular restaurant.
